چکیده

Bacteria present on implant surface may lead to an inflammation of the peri-implant mucosa, and, if left untreated, the inflammation spreads apically and results in bone loss, a process that has been named peri-implantitis (Garcia et al., 1998). So, the removal of bacterial biofilms seems to be a prerequisite in the therapy of peri-implant infections (Schwarz et al., 2005). Periodontal diseases Prevention is often based on plaque control. The aim of traditional dentistry is based on the therapy of oral diseases. During the previous studies, great progress has been made in the field of oral microbiology, particularly as it relates to diagnosis. Some of this obtained knowledge can already be used in the ISSN: 2319-7706 Volume 3 Number 10 (2014) pp. 510-518 http://www.ijcmas.com

Antimicrobial effect of chlorhexidine on Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans biofilms associated with peri-implantitis

Background. This study aimed to assessthe antimicrobial effect of chlorhexidine (CHX) on Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans biofilms isolated from subgingival plaque of peri-implantitis lesions. Methods. Thirteen patients requiring peri-implantitis treatment were consecutively selected and their subgingival biofilm was collected by inserting fine sterile paper points into peri-implant pocket...

An Investigation of Antibiotic Resistance of Aggregatibacter Actinomycetemcomitans and Porphyromonas Gingivalis in Peri-implantitis Lesions

Background and Aim: It has been shown that anaerobic and capnophilic bacteria play an important role in implant failure and loss. The present study is an in vitro research aimed to investigate the antibiotic resistance of Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomi-tans (Aa) and Porphyromonas gingivalis (Pg) in peri-implantitis lesions of Iranian pa-tients and to find laboratory efficiency of some antibi...

Synthesis of new antibacterial composite coating for titanium based on highly ordered nanoporous silica and silver nanoparticles.

Infection is the most common factor that leads to dental titanium implant failure. Antibacterial implant surfaces based on nano-scale modifications of the titanium appear as an attractive strategy for control of peri-implantitis. In the present work, the preparation and antibacterial properties of a novel composite coating for titanium based on nanoporous silica and silver nanoparticles are pre...

Effect of Photodynamic Therapy Using Toluidine Blue on Eikenella corrodens and Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans Biofilms Adhered to Titanium Discs: An In Vitro Study

Background and aim: Antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) has been suggested as a novel technique for decontamination of exposed implant surfaces. We aimed to evaluate the effect of aPDT on sandblasted, large-grit, acid-etched (SLA) titanium discs contaminated with Eikenella corrodens (Ec) and Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans (Aa). Materials and methods: In this in-vitro study, twenty...

Bactericidal Effect of Erbium-Doped Yttrium Aluminum Garnet Laser and Photodynamic Therapy on Aggregatibacter Actinomycetemcomitans Biofilm on Implant Surface.

PURPOSE Peri-implantitis is a common complication of dental implants. The first step of treatment is elimination of bacterial biofilm and disinfection of the implant surface. This study sought to compare the effects of an erbium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Er:YAG) laser, photodynamic therapy using an indocyanin green-based photosensitizer (ICG-based PS) and diode laser, toluidine blue O (TBO...
